DERRICK WARFEL has indeed had a checkerboarded background that has led him to his current role as Director on "The Fall of Night":  a graduate of Princeton University, a construction worker, a teacher in the L.A. School District, a Masters in Theology, a College Campus Ministry Director, a Real Estate Agent, and an M.F.A. degree from the famous U.S.C. Film School (with graduates like George Lucas).   He once even did a stint as a director/actor/stage-manager at the Oldest Theater in continuous operation in the United States, the National Historical Landmark, the Fulton Theater.  At another time he was in a summer stock troup with Treat Williams. 

Since moving to California, Derrick has been writing screenplays and teleplays for several years now and was a member of the Warners Writers Workshop.  He's sold and optioned screenplays and shorts films.  He has also directed a number of shorts over the years, but this is the first feature film he has directed.

 "Making films is all about control.  Getting the story that is in your mind to the audience.  The problem is that there are so many middle men, that the story you start out wanting to tell gets so changed in the process through the production company, the studio, the distributor, the agents, the executives, and so on - that what often ends out on screen is not the story the writer started out to tell.  In my opinion, digital video has changed all that.  With the price of quality video cameras and editing equipment dropping to a affordable range, we are now seeing a whole 'New Wave' of digital filmmakers who are taking their ideas right from the page to a final edited product right to the intended audience.  It's an exciting time to be a filmmaker and to get in on this media revolution."
